Best Neighborhoods along the North East Bench of Salt Lake City, Utah. If you are a Physician, Dentist, Psychiatrist, or a Medical Professional, you will be asking your self the same question – where should I live? I have found that many medical professionals like to be in the same areas. These locations tend to be in the top quality of neighborhoods found in Salt Lake City. I am here to give you an idea of some of those locations after you have finished up your residency and you are about to start a new position at one of the many world class hospitals Utah has to offer. Location is going to be key in your decision. I am constantly having new Doctors coming to Utah inquiring about the neighborhoods I would recommend. They always ask the same questions. Where should I live? Where are the hospitals located? Where do other doctors live? Is there an area where a lot of medical professionals tend to locate? I can help with all of these and many more questions. For now here is some info on several of the best neighborhoods Salt Lake City has to offer.

Sugar House

Epicenter: E. 21st St. South and S. 11th St East., Salt Lake City, Utah
Sugarhouse is one of Salt Lake City’s most Unique neighborhoods, this quiet and cheerful quirky suburb is only 10 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City. Sugarhouse is filled with quaint 1920′s fixer-uppers and wonderful Cottages that bring a charm that can not be duplicated. Sugar House’s Tree-lined streets and 110-acre park, just east of the town’s center brings a level of home town feel that all desire. The park is the location of one of Salt Lake’s best firework displays during the festivities of the 4th of July ( a must attend event). This is one of the best neighborhoods for those who love lacing up their walking shoes to enjoy the scenery. While home to big, established employers such as the Nearby University of Utah Hospital and School, Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah Medical Research Park, Sugarhouse boasts a thriving district of small businesses, arts venues, and restaurants at the intersection of 900 South 900 East ( known as “9th & 9th”).

University of Utah

Epicenter: Navajo St. and California Ave., Salt Lake City, Utah
The I-15 and I-80 interstates, which run along an ancient set of railroad tracks, tend to divide the Salt Lake City valley. This Residential area is generally classified East of Virginia Street, and to the North all the way to South temple. It is adjacent to the Wasatch Mountain to the North, which provide some unbelievable hiking and Biking trails (Bonnevile Shoreline, Bobsled “Mountain Biking”), and the University of Utah to the south. There are three Hospitals located within riding your bike distance to Federal Heights. University of Utah Hospital and Huntsman Cancer insititure are on the far South East Side, with Shriners Hospital in the heart of Federal Heights. Federal Heights is one of the most affluent neighborhoods in Salt Lake City. Many of the homes in this area date back to the early 1900′s, properties that have been fabulously rebuilt in a location that can not be beat. You will be a University of Utah fan if you live here as you can walk to the football stadium.

Downtown Salt Lake City

Epicenter: E. South Temple St. and S. State St., Salt Lake City, Utah
Downtown Salt Lake City’s development radiated from Temple Square. EnergySolutions Arena (home to the Utah Jazz) is right here along with the Alta Club, Radio City Lounge and the rest of downtown Salt Lake City nightlife. Currently under construction is the City Creek Center. This Center brings urban living to Salt Lake City’s Downtown – a more cosmopolitan atmosphere. This will bring new energy to Salt Lake City. It currently is a $2 billion development that is transforming Salt Lake City into a competing big market city.

The Avenues

Epicenter: I St. and 6th Ave., Salt Lake City, Utah
Nestled at the bottom of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains — an area known locally as the “benches”. The Avenues Salt Lake City neighborhood suburb is a popular district for young professionals. It’s an almost entirely residential Salt Lake City neighborhood sprinkled with plenty of classic Victorians. In recent years, rents have grown thanks to the Avenues’ ideal positioning between downtown Salt Lake City and the scenic countryside, though the district retains a mix of trendy professionals. The LDS Hospital owned and operated by Intermountain Health Care is located in the heart of the Avenues. With Shriners Hospital located on the far East Side, and the University of Utah Hospital and Huntsman Cancer institute right around the corner.

15th & 15th

Epicenter: S. 15th St. East and E. 15th St. South, Salt Lake City, Utah
Tucked out of sight of Salt Lake City’s main boulevards, the 15th and 15th neighborhood is home to aging brick bungalows, relics of the area’s middle-class beginnings, and an assortment of locally owned businesses and Salt Lake City restaurants. Snugly fit into the Emerson Heights district about three miles from downtown Salt Lake City, the increasingly young population of 15th and 15th find their fun in the expansive nearby Sugar Hill Park as well as comfortable local establishments like Mazza’s, a Lebanese restaurant, and the King’s English Bookshop, where the remains of the owner’s deceased cat, Agatha Christie, sit in an urn near the register. This wonderful neighborhood is full of unique architecture from the brick bungalow era which have been transformed into an upper class neighborhood full of Physicians, Lawyers, and Professors.
